Why wait for Hardy Heron?

Ubuntu logoEvery where I go I see the same count down, 5 days to go, 3 days to go, 2 days to go. Every one I see is waiting for the release date of Hardy Heron.

Yes I know it is only 2 days away, but we all know from experience what happens on the release date. The entire world is downloading the new Ubuntu release and the bandwidth of all the canonical websites along with all of their mirrors is stretched thin. As a result download speeds really suck. It is really annoying watching the download rate fall from 30 kbps to 8 kbps (yes, I have a 256K connection).

So what is the solution you ask? Well Ubuntu is not supposed to be released 2 days from now, it was released quite some time ago and a lot of people including me have been using it for some time and are enjoying it. Ubuntu is still available in Beta version, but seriously in all these years I know that none of the Beta versions had any errors, they are all as stable as the full release version. I have not had any problems till now andUbuntu 8.04 is working smoothly.

so here is what you should do, download the Beta version at excellent download speeds, as no one else is downloading em now, install Ubuntu 8.04 and enjoy Ubuntu 8.04.  And when the official release date arrives (24th) all you have to do is run the update tool of Ubuntu and it will update the necessary files instead of downloading the entire disk image, and there you have it the complete version of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Hardy Heron was worth the wait, they have added a ton of new features, check out the What’s new in Ubuntu 8.04 from Ubuntu.com
