Tips on how to improve your car efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
The increase in fuel prices has made all of our lives miserable and with no sight of decrease in prices anytime soon all we can do is to get the most out of our fuel. After some research and experimentation I came up with the following ways which are a sure shot way to reduce your fuel consumption.
- The best way to reduce your fuel consumption is to use your car as little as possible. If the distance you are travelling is small and can be covered on foot or on a bicycle then do not use your car. This is more healthier for you and for your enviornment.
- Always check your tires inflation. Research has shown that 50% of tires on the road are under inflated. If your tires are under inflated, they will consume more fuel. So regularly check your tires inflation.
- If you stop for more than 2 minutes then it is best to switch off your car engine as keeping it running unnecessarily will increase fuel consumption. But if your stop is less than 2 minutes then turning off your car engine will not be worth it as your car will require a lot more fuel to get started.
- Drive off promptly: A lot has been said about this and it states that drive off as soon as you start your car as this will decrease your fuel consumption. This is WRONG. You have to give the engine sometime to heat up and some time for the oil to circulate, let the engine running for at least a minute before driving. This way the lubrication will decrease the wear and improve efficiency.
- Remove the unnecessary load from your car. The heavier the car the more fuel it will consume. Check out your trunk, remove all the things that you may not need, remove the tools that you don’t use too often. Every little bit helps.
- If you are driving at highway or motorway speeds then it is best to keep your windows shut, as the drag produced from open windows at this speed will drastically improve your fuel consumption. At these speeds the air conditioner should be preferred over windows.
- One of the most common reason for high fuel consumption is dirty air filter. When you air filter is dirty or old the amount of air entering your engine is reduced and this leads to in complete combustion. So clean your air filter regularly.
- Don’t break too often. Anticipate ahead. Breaking all of a sudden and then starting will increase your fuel consumption. Try to drive as smoothly as possible.
- Dont have a heavy foot. Like accelerate the car slowly and smoothly. Accelerating too much and too soon overworks the engine which resluts in high fuel consumption.
- Try to avoid going out in rush hours. Avoid traffic as musch as possible as in traffic we have to constantly apply the brakes and then start again, this takes up a lot of fuel. Try to cruis as much as possible.
- Change your spark plug wires and spark plugs or atleast have them checked out. This will also improve your mileage by a lot.
- Now the best way to improve your gas mileage is to addpure acetone to your fuel. It is very important that you get pure acetone. Acetone aids in the vaporization of the fuel and dramatically increases your gas mileag. Be careful while handling acetone, it is highly flamable, dont spill it on your car paint or on your self and dont breathe it in, pretty much the same pecations for gasoline. Acetone must be added in small amounts, a good ratio is to add 2 ounces of acetone in 10 gallons of fue.
Well with these tips you can almost double your gas mileage.
